ABOUT US
Ethereal is a medieval action game that started as an idea some of us had as graduate students at Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center. As fans of the medieval era and the game Counter Strike, we wondered if we could combine the two.

In beginning pre-production, we discovered we really didn't know much about medieval fighting--only what we'd seen in movies, games, and a few books. So, we joined up with the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and trained in medieval combat with their members. Once deemed battle-worthy, we attended Pennsic, an annual "war" event where attendance reaches upwards to 12,000 people participating in large-scale melee battles, tournaments, archery, stage performances, and other medieval events.

We were there for the battle, and for our fight we constructed a shield camera to help us capture the "feel" of the combat. We've tried to translate that feeling into our game.

Most of us left our former lives to attend school and pursue dreams of game development. Our goal has always been to ship a game and hopefully make a little money too (maybe even enough to pay back our student loans!). But with that said, we started this as students, and so we want to make our game free to college students. We hope you're entertained by the culmination of a very long journey.
